National sovereignty is a big subject. There are almost 200 sovereign states in the world.
It would be interesting if it were possible to measure the correlation between subjective concepts. If we place ethics and rationality in one group and in another we place religion, ideology, and patriotism, it is very clear, that the correlation between the groups would be very weak. On the other hand, the correlation between religion, patriotism, and ideology on one side and the driving forces commanding the politics of sovereign states, on the other, seems to be quite impressive. But it seems clear that ethics and rationality are not substantial driving forces behind governments.
You also don't need the aid of logic to understand that the condition of the present world is extremely volatile. The number of wicks makes clear the wide distribution of possibilities of an explosion. And the number of recent explosions is not unimpressive.
